(1) You may step on fresh exposed aggregate concrete three to four days after it has been poured, but do not drag anything (especially your feet) on it. Small pebbles from exposed aggregate concrete can be very easily dislodged. (2) Heavy objects (such as patio furniture or planters) can safely be placed on fresh concrete after four days. (3) Do not use deicers on fresh concrete for at least two years. It will cause the pebbles to dislodge. Actually, no deicers are safe for concrete. We advise use of sand (without salt) or kitty litter to provide traction on these surfaces in lieu of deicers. (4) If your new concrete work is done in the summer, we recommend hosing down the surface at least once a week through August or September (when daytime temperatures are 80 degrees or more) the first year. This will keep the concrete moist, giving it greater strength. Believe it or not, concrete hardens better under water!
